Lacey is a saddlebred cross and is a 6-7 YO mare. She came into River Edge Farm Rescue a short 6 months ago. She lived in a quarter acre lot with 8 other horses before she got with a few others and were found at large. As no surprise due to their living situation, Lacey and the others were very thin due to neglect and starvation. Lacey has settled in nicely with the herd and has gained weight.
(Brittany is training Gilbert, but he will not be in the competition) Gilbert-is a handsome 13 YO paint gelding. While he may be only 13 hh, he is stout and stocky and perfect for an adult rider.
Gilbert came to Safe Harbor Equine and Livestock Sanctuary after his owner passed away. He was effectively abandoned on a farm for over a year with little human contact. Once we were alerted to the plight of Gilbert, and had legal permission to assist him, one of our volunteers began going to the property in Gainesboro daily to win over Gilbert and help him become halter trained so he could receive veterinary care and be loaded to come to safety. Gilbert is inquisitive and is a gorgeous paint who will be a flashy fun horse for his eventual adopter. He still has a lot of fear issues, but his inquisitive nature is helping him overcome them. Sadly, he was born into a home that had no plans for his future, and the death of his owner further impacted his development—but life is turning around for Gilbert now.
Welcome back to one of the inaugural competition trainers and she took 3rd place! Brittany Malinoski has spent 15 plus years teaching, training and showing in both English and Western disciplines. The majority of her training and expertise were acquired under Virginia “Wick” Bachmann, the daughter of FEI “O” status Olympic judge Colonel Donald Thackeray. Wick helped hone Brittany’s skills in multiple disciplines and began her passion for training. Brittany then expanded her skills at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA on the IHSA Stock Horse and Hunt Seat teams, competing at the local, state and national level. Brittany moved to Tennessee three years ago and is now the head trainer and facility manager at Meridian Equine Education Center in Lebanon Tn. Brittany makes it a priority to continue educating herself and expanding her knowledge through clinics and workshops throughout the year. After competing in the 2016 Rally for the Rescues, Brittany and Meridian Equine continue to help out local Tennessee Rescues whenever possible.
